Mineiro tourist beaten after questioning the bill amount at a kiosk in Vila Velha
A tourist from Minas Gerais reported being assaulted by staff at a kiosk in Vila Velha after questioning the bill for five beers.
A 46-year-old tourist from Minas Gerais named Júlio César da Costa Simim alleged he was physically assaulted by kiosk employees after inquiring about the high bill amount during a visit to Praia da Sereia in Vila Velha, Espírito Santo. The incident occurred on a Friday afternoon when he and his family were enjoying their first vacation in the state. Despite only ordering five beers, Júlio was charged R$ 215, which prompted him to question the bill.
After questioning the charge, Júlio stated he decided to settle the bill despite his concerns. However, shortly after paying with his card, he was reportedly punched in the face and faced further assault from multiple individuals he described as waiters at the kiosk. According to Júlio, he was not only surprised by the bill but also shocked by the violent reaction from the staff, which escalated into a physical confrontation.
This incident raises significant concerns regarding tourist safety and customer service in popular vacation locales. Such actions not only jeopardize the physical well-being of visitors but also tarnish the reputation of local hospitality industries in Brazil, which greatly rely on tourism. Authorities and businesses will need to address these issues urgently to restore trust and ensure a safe environment for tourists and locals alike.
