Chinese drone for anti-submarine warfare among systems at Saudi defence show
Chinese military drones are gaining popularity in the Middle East, particularly showcased at a Saudi defense exhibition with the Wing Loong-X being a highlight for its anti-submarine warfare capabilities.
The Saudi defense show in Riyadh is attracting significant attention from global military markets as over 770 exhibitors from 76 countries are showcasing their technologies. Among these, China's participation stands out due to its prominent display of military drones, specifically the Wing Loong-X, which is being billed as the world’s first unmanned aerial vehicle designed for anti-submarine warfare. The increasing demand for autonomous defense technologies in the Middle East marks a turning point in military procurement and international defense relationships.
Military analyst Fu Qianshao noted that the Wing Loong-X was specifically developed for the export market and aims to compete with established military technologies like those of the United States. The drone features impressive capabilities, with a long endurance of around 40 hours and a range of approximately 10,000 kilometers. This versatility in endurance and operational range positions the Wing Loong-X as a formidable competitor against manned aircraft, potentially revolutionizing how nations approach anti-submarine warfare with unmanned systems.
China's growing influence in Middle Eastern defense procurement reflects broader trends in military modernization and the diversification of defense partnerships in the region. As countries increasingly seek advanced military capabilities, the popularity of Chinese drone technology indicative of shifting dynamics in global military logistics, opening avenues for new strategic alliances and potentially altering the balance of military power.
