Uganda: Meeting With Museveni Was Not Transactional - Opposition MP Kabuusu

Opposition MP Moses Kabuusu has defended a recent meeting with President Museveni, stating it aimed at promoting national reconciliation rather than political deals.

Moses Kabuusu, a Member of Parliament representing the People's Front for Freedom (PFF), has clarified that a recent meeting between opposition politicians and President Yoweri Museveni was not transactional but rather aimed at fostering national reconciliation. This statement was made during an appearance on NBS Television’s Morning Breeze, where Kabuusu elaborated that the purpose of the engagement was to explore the President’s willingness to support a reconciliation process in light of ongoing political tensions in Uganda.

The meeting, which took place at State House Entebbe and was led by Mawokota South MP Yusuf Nsibambi, comes during a period of political polarization in the country, particularly following a contentious election cycle. Kabuusu emphasized the necessity of dialogue in addressing the fragmented political landscape and noted that the opposition's delegation sought to understand Museveni's openness to a broader reconciliation effort.

Kabuusu's remarks signal a potential shift towards dialogue among Uganda's political factions, especially as the next elections approach in January 2026. His insistence that the meeting was not based on political exchanges suggests a focus on addressing the underlying issues of division within the political sphere, inviting speculation about whether this could lead to a more stable political environment in the future.
