If you complete this military service, you will gain direct entry to higher education

Finnish defense forces are offering a new pathway to higher education for those completing cyber military service, allowing them access to polytechnic schools without entrance exams.

The Finnish Defense Forces have initiated a collaboration with Hämeen University of Applied Sciences (Hamk) and Metropolia to create a direct pathway for those who complete the cyber military service to enter higher education. Starting from next autumn, these individuals will have the opportunity to enroll in higher education programs without having to pass entrance exams or undergo separate application processes.

This pathway specifically applies to studies related to information and communication technology at Hamk and Metropolia. Participants who complete the cyber military training after July 1, 2025, will be eligible for admission to Hamk’s information and communication technology programs if they apply within 1.5 years after completing their military service. The skills acquired during service will be counted towards their degree requirements, allowing them to secure a spot in school simply with their service certificate. Notably, Hamk will grant 30 study credits to those who have completed the cyber military service.

This initiative is significant as it underscores the growing importance of cybersecurity education and the military’s role in fostering tech-savvy professionals. By tapping into the skills learned during service, the defense forces are not only incentivizing military enrollment but also enhancing the workforce in the technology sector, thereby contributing to the broader goal of strengthening national security through better-trained individuals in cybersecurity.
