Suspension of Referees Due to 'Serious Error' Changing the Result of the Match Between Sfaxien and African Club

Two referees have been suspended indefinitely after committing a serious error during a local football match that affected its outcome.

The Tunisian refereeing administration has decided to suspend international video assistant referee Haythem Guerat and his assistant Osama Sharit indefinitely following their serious error during the match between Sfaxien and African Club in the local Premier League. The match, which concluded in a 1-1 draw, was marred by controversy as the refereeing decision directly influenced the result.

In the match held on Sunday, Sfaxien took the lead with a penalty scored by Hicham Bakkar in the 14th minute; however, the African Club equalized in the 86th minute through a header from substitute Sadek Qaid. The referees' mistake was reported as having misjudged an offside call leading to the African goal, a serious oversight given the deployment of modern video technology.

The refereeing committee stated that after reviewing the situation and listening to the two officials via video call, it was determined that the serious and unjustifiable error warranted their suspension. The committee emphasized the importance of accurate officiating, especially with the available technology that should assist in minimizing such critical mistakes in sports.
