Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado has reported the kidnapping of political leader Juan Pablo Guanipa shortly after his release from prison.
On Monday, Venezuelan opposition leader and Nobel Peace Prize nominee María Corina Machado reported the kidnapping of Juan Pablo Guanipa, a political leader released just prior as part of a recent initiative to free political prisoners following the ousting of Nicolás Maduro. Guanipa, freed from detention, had been visiting various jails to meet with the families of other political prisoners and to speak to the press regarding their plight.
According to Machado, Guanipa was forcibly taken from a location in Los Chorros, Caracas, by heavily armed men dressed as civilians who arrived in four vehicles. This incident has raised significant concerns regarding the safety of political leaders in Venezuela, especially as the nation navigates a tumultuous political atmosphere marked by recent changes in power dynamics following Maduro's departure.
Ramón Guanipa, the son of Juan Pablo Guanipa, echoed concerns for his father's safety, stating that his father was ambushed by approximately ten armed individuals lacking any identification shortly before 11:45 PM.
