2026 Young Writer Award Winner Kim Chae-won... All Awardees are Women Again

Kim Chae-won was awarded the 2026 Young Writer Award, continuing the trend of all female recipients this year.

The 17th Young Writer Award has been awarded to Kima Chae-won for her piece 'Stars Falling Down.' Other awardees included authors Gil-lan, Nam Ui-hyun, Seo Jang-won, Wi Soo-jung, Lee Mi-sang, and Ham Yoon-i, all for their notable works released over the past year. Each winner will receive a cash prize of 7 million won. Kim, who debuted in 2022 through a spring literary competition, has published a collection titled 'Seoul Oasis,' and her short story 'Stars Falling Down' was featured in a recent anthology. This year’s selection shows a continuation of a trend in which all winners of the Young Writer Award have been women since 2014, marking the fifth time this has occurred since the award's inception. The award, organized by Munhakdongne, is intended for authors with less than ten years of publication experience, highlighting the contributions of emerging female writers in South Korea's literary scene. As this year’s winners gather attention, it reflects both the shifting dynamics in literature and the powerful voice women authors are gaining within the industry.
