None of the five hospitals promised by Ibaneis in 2022 will be built by the end of his term, admits secretary

The Health Secretary of the Federal District has confirmed that none of the five hospitals promised by Governor Ibaneis Rocha will be constructed during his term.

The Secretary of Health of the Federal District of Brazil has disclosed that none of the five hospitals that Governor Ibaneis Rocha promised during his second term will come to fruition. This announcement comes despite Rocha's assurances made during a television interview shortly after his re-election in 2022, where he vowed to establish three new regional hospitals within two years. Among the ambitious plans included the construction of the Jofran Frejat Cancer Hospital, which was reportedly already underway according to the government’s agenda.

The Health Secretary highlighted that the total projected cost for the five hospitals would exceed R$ 1.2 billion, which would have added 704 new beds to the public health system. However, current developments show that the construction of these critical health facilities remains stalled, with only a meager percentage of progress reported on specific projects such as the Hospital of Recanto das Emas, where merely 3.09% of the work has been completed. Additionally, the government is still waiting for the technical documentation accompanied by an updated schedule for the construction.

This failure to deliver on health infrastructure projects has raised concerns about public health accessibility and quality in the Federal District, prompting criticism over the administration’s ability to fulfill its healthcare commitments. The lack of tangible progress raises questions regarding the allocation of public funds and the effectiveness of state oversight in ensuring that essential services, like healthcare, are adequately provided for the citizenry.
