The suspect accused of attempting to kill Lieutenant General Vladimir Alexeyev has been arrested in Dubai and is being deported back to Russia.

A suspect identified as Lyubomir Korba, allegedly responsible for an assassination attempt on Russian military intelligence officer Lieutenant General Vladimir Alexeyev, has been apprehended in Dubai. This incident, which took place on February 6, 2026, prompted a swift escape to Dubai by the accused, but Russian officials have confirmed that he is being returned to Russia following his arrest. The investigation indicates that the suspect was allegedly working for Ukraine at the time of the attack, which forms part of a series of targeted killings of senior military officials attributed to Ukrainian operatives.

According to the spokesperson for the Russian Investigative Committee, Svetlana Petrenko, the attack on Alexeyev was connected to a broader conflict involving the assassination of high-ranking Russian officers. The Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) claims to have also identified two accomplices associated with Korba, with one of them reportedly based in Moscow. This news highlights ongoing tensions related to Ukrainian-Russian relations, particularly regarding recent violent actions in the context of the conflict between the two countries.

As the investigation deepens, Russian law enforcement agencies have pledged to explore all aspects surrounding this case, emphasizing the gravity of targeting influential military leaders amid a tumultuous geopolitical environment. Given the current state of Russian-Ukrainian relations, the repercussions of this incident could provoke further diplomatic and security challenges for both nations, raising concerns over possible retaliatory actions and increased turmoil.
