Survey of 'Rzeczpospolita'. Who is already packing an evacuation backpack?

A recent survey shows that a majority of Poles do not plan to prepare evacuation backpacks despite guidance from the government.

A survey conducted by IBRiS at the request of 'Rzeczpospolita' reveals that only 24.2% of respondents are planning to put together an evacuation backpack for themselves or their families, while 52.4% do not plan to do so. Furthermore, a significant 14.1% of those surveyed indicated that they have not received the informational brochure distributed by the government, which is meant to aid in preparation for emergencies.

Among those who do intend to pack an evacuation backpack, various demographic factors emerge. The interest is notably higher among women (28%), individuals aged 70 and above (44%), residents of medium-sized towns (33%), and people from the northern macroregion (37%). Economic factors also play a role, as 67% of those with a net income of up to 2,900 PLN expressed the intention to prepare a backpack. Additionally, there is a political dimension with 53% of those intending to pack having voted for the Civic Coalition in the last parliamentary elections.

This survey sheds light on the public’s perception of emergency preparedness in Poland. It suggests a general ambivalence towards the instructions provided by the Ministry of Interior and Administration regarding evacuation preparedness, which may raise concerns about public safety and the importance given to such planning initiatives in the context of current geopolitical tensions.
