Israeli Channel 13: Prisons Service has begun preparations to execute Palestinian prisoners

Israeli Channel 13 reported that the Prisons Service is preparing to implement the death penalty for Palestinian prisoners accused of attacks, following the approval of a law in the Knesset.

Israeli Channel 13 disclosed that the Prisons Service has started special preparations for implementing the death penalty against Palestinian prisoners whom Israel accuses of carrying out or planning attacks. This initiative comes after a law on the death penalty was approved in its first reading in the Israeli parliament (Knesset). The plan involves establishing a dedicated facility for executing death sentences, including necessary procedures, training personnel, and drawing from the experiences of countries that implement similar penalties.

According to the report, this plan includes the construction of a separate complex, internally referred to as the "Israeli Green Corridor," dedicated to carrying out executions. The executions are reported to be conducted by hanging, with three prison guards activating the execution mechanism simultaneously. It has been decided that the execution teams will be composed solely of volunteers, who will undergo specialized training to prepare for this role.

Israeli officials indicated that executions could take place within 90 days following a final verdict. The law is expected to be applied first to members of Hamas who were involved in the October 7, 2023 attack, highlighting the contentious and politically charged atmosphere surrounding this law and its implications for the already fraught Israeli-Palestinian relations. This development raises significant concerns regarding human rights and ethical considerations regarding capital punishment in the context of ongoing political and military conflict.
