UniAbuja promotes 21 academics to professorship

The University of Abuja has promoted 21 academic staff to professorship following a meeting of its Governing Council.

The University of Abuja, now known as Yakubu Gowon University, has taken a significant step in enhancing its academic stature by promoting 21 of its academic staff to the esteemed rank of professors. This decision was confirmed by the Acting Director of Information and University Relations, Dr. Habib Yakoob, and comes under the leadership of the Governing Council's chairman, Dr. Olanrewaju Tejuoso. The promotions include 16 academics rising to full professorship and five others being elevated to associate professorship across various disciplines.

The final selection of the new professors was made during the 81st Extraordinary Meeting of the Governing Council, which took place on Thursday and Friday. The candidates' promotions were backed by positive evaluations from external assessors regarding their academic publications and contributions to their respective fields. This measure demonstrates the university’s commitment to academic excellence and scholarly impact, which are crucial for its growth and reputation in Nigeria’s higher education landscape.
