Lee Nahyun and Kim Minseon Challenge in Speed Skating 1000m... Sunyoung Seok and Yongseok Jeong's Last Match in Mixed Doubles
Korean speed skating hopes Lee Nahyun and Kim Minseon are set to compete in the 1000m event at the upcoming Winter Olympics in Milan.
Lee Nahyun, a promising 20-year-old from Korea University, and seasoned skater Kim Minseon, 26, from Uijeongbu City Hall, are preparing to compete in the Women's Speed Skating 1000m finals at the 2026 Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics. The event is poised to take place at 1:30 AM KST on February 10, with both athletes being key representatives for South Korea in this event. Lee Nahyun recently set the national best record this season at 1:13.92 during the first World Cup event in Salt Lake City, while Kim Minseon has also shown strong performances in the 1000m category.
The competition is expected to be fierce, as Liechtenstein’s Yuta Leerdam, and Canada’s Beatrice Lamarche are among other contenders who have recorded impressive season-best times close to 1:12 seconds. Notably, the Japanese Olympic medalists Miho Takagi and Yukino Yoshida are also strong contenders, adding pressure to the South Korean duo. Reports indicate that the ice quality at the competition venue is hard, which might favor stronger athletes during the starts, indicating strategic preparation for Lee and Kim.
Meanwhile, in the mixed doubles curling event, the pair of Kim Seonyoung and Jeong Yongseok are set to face Norway in their final round robin match. Despite earning a spot in the mixed doubles through merit, the pair has struggled to achieve their expected results due to the unique demands of the format, which allows only five stones and requires precision in gameplay. The Korean duo vows to end their competition on a high note with their last match, hoping to leave a lasting impression at the Games.
