World Pizza Day: Quito, Guayaquil, and Cuenca lead orders on the platform. These are the preferred restaurants
On World Pizza Day, Ecuador sees significant pizza orders with Quito, Guayaquil, and Cuenca topping the list.
On World Pizza Day, which falls on February 9, the food delivery service PedidosYa released a consumption analysis indicating that pizza continues to be one of the most popular food categories in Ecuador. In 2025, there were 706,314 pizza orders placed in the country, contributing to a regional total of over 32 million units sold, marking a 16% year-over-year increase from 2024. The analysis emphasizes that pizza in Ecuador goes beyond just food; it represents a social occasion and a craving, particularly peaking on Saturday evenings at 7 PM.
Among the cities, Quito emerged as the leader with 293,155 pizza orders, followed closely by Guayaquil and Cuenca, reaffirming these cities as the hotspots for pizza demand. The analysis also noted the size preferences for pizza orders in Ecuador, with medium and family-size pizzas being the most commonly ordered. The data provided insight into consumer habits and trends, underscoring the role of pizza as a staple choice for gatherings and celebrations in these urban centers.
Ernesto Molestina, the Head of Operations at PedidosYa, stated that the findings reflect not only the growing preference for pizza but also highlight the time-specific nature of pizza consumption, showcasing how cultural habits shape the food ordering experience. As Ecuadorian cities continue to embrace this culinary favorite, it raises questions about the potential for further growth in the food delivery market and how local eateries can capitalize on such trends.
