All too easy for the Diamonds in sealing series win over Jamaica
Australia's Diamonds netball team secured a decisive victory against Jamaica, winning their three-match series ahead of the Commonwealth Games preparation.
Australia's Diamonds netball team demonstrated their dominance once again as they triumphed over Jamaica with a significant 73-41 victory in Perth, thereby sealing a three-game series with an unassailable 2-0 lead. This follows their earlier victory of 72-41 in Adelaide just a few days prior, underscoring the Diamonds' strong performance in the lead-up to the Commonwealth Games. Coach Stacey Marinkovich expressed confidence in her team's preparation, despite criticisms regarding the ease of their recent matches against a depleted Jamaican squad.
Jamaica's Sunshine Girls, currently ranked third in the world, faced considerable challenges in this match, notably missing key players such as Jhaniele Fowler-Nembhard and Romelda Aiken-George. Their absence greatly impacted Jamaica's performance, leading to a low shooting accuracy of just 53% from centre passes and a high number of turnovers, which totaled 32 compared to Australia’s 17. The discrepancies in play highlighted the Diamonds' comprehensive tactical superiority, emphasizing their readiness for international competition.
With this series being the final international tests before the 2026 Commonwealth Games, the Diamonds are positioned strongly, receiving praise for their consistent performances. The final match of the series will be hosted in Melbourne and is expected to be another opportunity for the Diamonds to solidify their skill set ahead of the prestigious tournament. As they prepare for this challenge, all eyes will be on how they address the weaknesses exposed in Jamaica's shortfalls and enhance their gameplay further in the lead-up to the Games.
