Sote Minister Juuso Acquires Shares in Pharmaceutical Company – Now There’s an Explanation

Finland's Social and Health Minister Kaisa Juuso has acquired shares in the pharmaceutical company Novo Nordisk, raising questions about potential conflicts of interest in her ministerial duties.

Kaisa Juuso, the Social and Health Minister of Finland, has recently disclosed that she owns shares in the pharmaceutical company Novo Nordisk, among others, as revealed in her declaration of interests. This marks a notable shift from last year, when Juuso did not declare any stock ownership. Currently, she reports owning 29 shares of Novo Nordisk, 50 shares of a quantum computing company, and 50 shares of the electronics manufacturer Xiaomi.

Novo Nordisk is widely recognized for producing Ozempic, a drug initially developed for diabetes but now also prescribed for weight loss. Juuso's responsibilities in her ministerial role include overseeing drug matters, although most of this portfolio belongs to Minister Sanni Grahn-Laasonen. This dual role raises concerns regarding the implications of her investments, especially given the potential for conflicts of interest between her financial interests in pharmaceutical companies and her regulatory responsibilities.

Iltalehti sought clarity from Minister Juuso regarding the timing of her acquisition of Novo Nordisk shares and whether she has addressed any possible conflicts of interest following her latest investments. However, she did not respond to the media outlet's request for comments, leaving questions about transparency and accountability in her ministerial conduct unresolved.
