Brazil presents uniforms by a gaucho designer at the Winter Olympics
Brazil unveiled its team's uniforms designed by gaucho stylist Oskar Metsavaht at the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics opening ceremony.
On February 6, Brazil revealed the uniforms for its athletes at the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics during the opening ceremony. These distinctive uniforms, created by Brazilian designer Oskar Metsavaht in collaboration with Italian brand Moncler, blend the spirit of Brazil with winter sports aesthetics. The brand's creative director, Remo Ruffini, emphasized this unique design synergy, which integrates Metsavaht's personal experience in winter sports with Moncler's mountain heritage.
The uniforms feature notable elements that pay homage to Brazil, including the Brazilian flag displayed in the lining of the white jackets, which are inspired by Moncler's classic Karakorum jacket. This collaboration marks Moncler's return to the Olympic scene after nearly sixty years, as the brand previously outfitted the French ski team during the 1968 Olympics in Grenoble, France. The reopening of this partnership signals a new chapter for both brands in the context of Olympic fashion.
Furthermore, the collaboration has significance beyond just aesthetics, as Moncler has been sponsoring Brazilian-Norwegian skier Lucas Pinheiro Braathen since 2024. This sponsorship not only highlights the brand's commitment to promoting winter sports among Brazilian athletes but also showcases how high-fashion designers can integrate cultural elements into athletic wear, making a deep impact on the identity of Brazilian representation at international sporting events.
