Kompus jumps to second place in Estonia’s all-time rankings
Pole vault athlete Robert Kompus set a personal record in Dortmund, making him the second highest pole vaulter in Estonia’s history.
Robert Kompus, a 20-year-old pole vaulter, significantly improved his personal best by clearing 5.65 meters at an indoor competition in Dortmund, elevating him to second place in Estonia's all-time performance list. Previously, his best jump was 5.50 meters, achieved in June of the previous year in Lahti. This impressive performance put him ahead of other notable vaulters like Eerik Haamer and Erki Nool, edging closer to the national record of 5.86 meters set by Valeri Bukrejev in 1993.
The competition showcased not just Kompus’s talents, but also highlighted the depth of talent in Estonia's pole vaulting scene. He secured the second rank behind Italian athlete Matteo Oliveri, who also cleared 5.65 meters but did so on his first attempt, giving him the victory on countback. The success of Kompus represents not just a personal achievement but also signals a positive trend in Estonian athletics, specifically in pole vaulting, as new talents emerge to challenge older records.
Additionally, two other Estonian athletes, Kreete Verlin and Anna Maria Millend, are scheduled to compete in Karlsruhe, Germany, the same day as Kompus's event. Their performances could further emphasize Estonia's growing presence in international athletics. Overall, Kompus's jump serves as a reminder of the importance of young athletes in continuing the legacy of sports excellence in Estonia.
