Gunmen abduct three children in Ebonyi
Three children have been abducted by gunmen in Ebonyi State, Nigeria, escalating concerns about child safety in the area.
The Police Command in Ebonyi State has confirmed the kidnapping of three children by suspected criminals in the area, prompting widespread alarm regarding child safety. The incident occurred on the morning of February 7 in Abakaliki, at a location near the Nkwegu Military Cantonment. The children, one male aged two and two females aged four and two, were reported abducted by their parents, although no ransom demand has been made at this time, according to the State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Joshua Ukandu.
Law enforcement officials indicated that investigations are underway, with efforts focusing on the safe return of the children. The community has expressed deep concern over the rising trend of kidnappings, particularly those targeting minors. The lack of immediate demands for ransom has left families anxious and skeptical about the motivations behind the kidnapping.
This incident comes at a time when incidents of abduction for ransom are becoming increasingly prevalent in Nigeria, especially in certain regions. The police response and ongoing investigations are critical in addressing public fears and ensuring the safety of children, as well as restoring trust within the community.
