The comet with a new cannon barrel: - Hoping to run even faster
Håkon Moe Berg sets a new U23 European record in the 1500 meters but still believes he can improve further.
19-year-old Håkon Moe Berg from Kyrksæterøra has emerged as a serious contender in the 1500 meters after achieving significant milestones in the past year. Under the guidance of his coach, Ola Sakshaug, Berg has delivered three solid performances in succession. Despite setting new personal and European U23 records, he acknowledges that he has yet to unleash his full potential, hinting that there is still more to come from him in future competitions.
Recently, Berg recorded a time of 3:34.32 in Stockholm, fulfilling his World Championship requirements and breaking his own U23 European record. Just a week later, in Dortmund, he further improved his indoor record to 3:34.02. During this race, however, he faced challenges when the pace setter exerted themselves too early, leading him to run the final 600 meters solo. Despite this, Berg remained composed and managed to maintain his lead, demonstrating impressive resilience.
Berg's achievements are remarkable, particularly for someone of his young age, making him a notable athlete to watch in upcoming competitions. With further potential for growth and additional races on the horizon, both he and his coach are optimistic about what lies ahead. The excitement around his performances could very well inspire a new generation of middle-distance runners in Norway and beyond.
