Ukraine: USA pushes for end of war by June
The USA is urging for an end to the Ukraine war by June, with plans to pressure involved parties for negotiations.
According to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, the United States is advocating for an end to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine by June. Zelensky indicated that American officials are likely to exert pressure on both the Ukrainian and Russian sides to adhere to this timeline. In a significant diplomatic move, Washington has proposed a meeting in Miami to facilitate discussions, aimed at resolving the nearly four-year-long conflict caused by the Russian invasion.
Last week, talks were held in Abu Dhabi involving negotiators from both Russia and Ukraine concerning potential resolutions to the war, demonstrating a growing international interest in achieving peace. However, the situation on the ground remains critical. Zelensky reported that Russia has recently deployed over 2,000 combat drones, along with numerous glide bombs, missiles, and cruise missiles, in an intensified assault on Ukraine’s infrastructure. These attacks have left hundreds of thousands in Ukraine without power and heating amidst severe winter conditions.
The urgency of reaching a diplomatic solution is compounded by the humanitarian crisis resulting from the conflict, as civilians face harsh winter temperatures without essential services. The push from the US government to facilitate talks suggests a recalibration of its approach to support Ukraine against Russian aggression while seeking to bring the conflict to a swift conclusion for regional stability.
