Two cargo ships registered under the flags of Portugal and Malta collided in the Gulf of Finland near St. Petersburg according to Russian media reports.

According to reports from Russian media outlet 47News, two cargo ships collided on Saturday morning in the Gulf of Finland, close to St. Petersburg. The vessels, identified as Glyfada and Aeolian Fortune, were reported to be traveling towards the Ust-Luga port. Finnish Border Guard officials stated that they had no information about the incident on Sunday morning, emphasizing that the location of the collision does not fall under their maritime rescue area, although they plan to investigate the circumstances of the incident. The collision occurred diagonally between the two vessels, which are bulk carriers. Fortunately, no injuries were reported among the crew members, and no environmental damage has been detected following the incident. Each ship's crew is assessing the damage caused by the collision, and it has been indicated that after this assessment, they will be able to continue their voyage without major disruptions. Both ships had departed from the port of St. Petersburg the previous evening. The Glyfada measures 199 meters in length and 32 meters in width, while the Aeolian Fortune is 229 meters long and 32 meters wide. Importantly, the collision is not expected to affect other shipping traffic in the area, indicating that normal operations can continue without significant interference.
