Investigation into Gaurav Gogoi's 'PAK connection' will happen, Assam Cabinet has sent the report to the Home Ministry

The Assam Cabinet has decided to refer a case involving Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi's alleged links to Pakistan to the Ministry of Home Affairs, following a report from a state investigation team.

The Assam Cabinet, led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, has decided to send a report concerning Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi's alleged Pakistani connections to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA). This comes after the Special Investigation Team (SIT), formed to probe the matter, submitted its findings. Sarma highlighted that the case involves aspects of national security, indicating a significant concern for the state and country at large.

The investigation also touches upon an alleged anti-India conspiracy involving an individual named Ali Taukir Sheikh, alongside a British citizen and a member of the Indian Parliament. Given the serious implications of these findings, including allegations of collusion with foreign elements, the Assam Cabinet deemed it necessary to escalate the case to the central government. They will forward the SIT report and the First Information Report (FIR) filed in connection with the matter to further the inquiry.

This political development is also perceived as a strategic maneuver by the ruling party, especially in light of upcoming assembly elections, with Sarma accusing the Congress party of having links to Pakistan. Notably, he referenced Gogoi's wife's former association with an NGO allegedly tied to Pakistan, intending to amplify the controversy in the political arena. As political tensions rise, this situation could influence voter sentiments and party dynamics in the run-up to the elections.
