'Vast Amount' of Manure Runs into a Stream in Jutland
A significant amount of manure has been reported leaking from a tank at a farm into a nearby stream in Jutland, Denmark.
A large quantity of manure has been discharged from a tank at a farm and is currently flowing into a stream near Lem, Jutland. Jan Johnsen, the incident commander at Brand & Redning MidtVest, confirmed to Ritzau that this has been ongoing for a period and is visibly apparent in the surrounding area. Local reports indicate that the leak has raised environmental concerns as the manure affects the water quality of the stream.
On the scene, two excavators and a sludge tanker are actively working to contain the leak, with more sludge tankers en route to help manage the situation. The priority is to stop the discharge and remove as much manure as possible from the area to mitigate the environmental impact. The local authorities are treating this as a significant environmental incident.
According to Jan Johnsen, the farmer suspects that the discharge may have been caused by a defective pump or melting snow, both of which can lead to such incidents if not properly managed. This situation underscores the ongoing challenges in agricultural waste management and the potential risks to local ecosystems from such leaks.
