Police: Memorial for the victims of the Swiss bar fire has caught fire
A memorial dedicated to the victims of a fire at a skiing resort bar in Switzerland has caught fire, prompting an investigation.
On January 1, a fire broke out at the bar "Le Constellation" in the Kran Montana ski resort, leading to the tragic loss of 41 lives and injuring 115 others, mostly teenagers and young adults. In memory of the victims, a temporary memorial adorned with flowers, candles, and condolence messages was set up near the site of the tragedy. However, this memorial caught fire early Sunday morning, around 6 AM, according to local police reports. The Valais police announced the fire was quickly extinguished by firefighters, and an investigation has been initiated to determine the cause of the blaze at the memorial, which had recently been moved slightly further away from the burnt-down bar. Authorities are focusing on understanding the circumstances surrounding this incident, which has raised concerns in the local community regarding safety measures at public memorials following such tragic events. Images broadcasted by the Swiss public broadcaster RTS showed a charred white tarpaulin covering the memorial, which was placed to safeguard it from adverse weather conditions. The incident highlights the ongoing grief in the community and the importance of honoring the memory of those lost in the fire, as local authorities strive to ensure the memorial is appropriately protected going forward.
