Collision between car and train leaves one dead and one critically injured in Magé
A passenger train collided with a car in Magé, Brazil, resulting in one fatality and one person seriously injured.
A tragic accident occurred on Saturday, October 7, in Magé, Brazil, where a car was struck by a passenger train near the Suruí station. The incident happened around 5 PM, leading to the death of one person at the scene and leaving another individual, a man estimated to be around 25 years old, in critical condition. He was promptly taken to Adão Pereira Nunes Municipal Hospital in Duque de Caxias for urgent medical care.
Authorities, including the Fire Department, reported that the collision was the result of the vehicle illegally crossing the railway tracks at an unauthorized level crossing, which is an important detail that indicates potential negligence on the part of the driver. The train's impact was so severe that the car was dragged several meters and became wedged between the train and the station platform, underscoring the dangers of railway crossings and the need for proper signage and enforcement of traffic regulations near such areas.
Following the accident, SuperVia, the train company, announced that it had contacted the appropriate local agencies to assist the victims and expressed condolences for the incident. Train services on the Guapimirim line were suspended temporarily due to the accident, affecting local transit and raising concerns regarding railway safety measures and the necessity for community awareness regarding authorized crossing points to prevent future tragedies.
