Curlers Zelingrová and Chabičovský defeated the Norwegian silver defenders at the Olympics
Czech curlers Julie Zelingrová and Vít Chabičovský achieved a significant victory over Norway at the Olympic Games, securing their second win in the mixed doubles tournament.
In a notable performance at the Olympic Games, Czech curlers Julie Zelingrová and Vít Chabičovský defeated the reigning Norwegian silver medalists 6-3. This victory occurred during their seventh match in the mixed doubles tournament being held in Cortina, marking their second win after a previous triumph against Korea. With two more games remaining in the tournament, they have a chance to improve their current tied-seventh position, showcasing their competitive spirit as they advance in the tournament.
Zelingrová and Chabičovský faced the Norwegian duo of Kristin Skaslien and Magnus Nedregotten, who have previously earned medals in the last two Olympic Games. Notably, the Czech pair never trailed in the match and entered the final end with a two-point lead, benefiting from the last stone advantage. Despite the Norwegian duo's strategic positioning of two stones closest to the center before the last shot, Zelingrová expertly played, removing both Norwegian stones and securing the victory for her team.
The Czech victory is particularly significant as it represents a notable achievement against a strong pair with a decorated history; the Norwegians have won bronze in Pyeongchang 2018 and silver in Beijing 2022, as well as achieving commendable placements in world championships. In contrast, the current tournament has not favored the Norwegians, who now share a similar record at the bottom of the standings with their opponents from the Czech Republic, Korea, and Estonia as they head into the final stretch of the event.
