Fleximan is back: a speed camera was cut down in Padova
A vandal known as Fleximan has targeted and destroyed a speed camera in Fontaniva, Padova, by cutting it down with a power saw.
In the early hours of February 3, 2023, a figure known only as Fleximan returned to vandalize a speed camera located along the Postumia road connecting Treviso and Vicenza, in the Fontaniva area of Padova. The speed detection device was severely damaged, having been cut down at its base, leaving the internal wires exposed and visible. This act of vandalism was discovered the following Tuesday afternoon when local police were called to the scene after issues arose with the camera's functionality.
Upon investigation, local agents found that the speed camera was completely destroyed, which confirmed suspicions regarding its malfunctioning capabilities. Reports suggest that the camera was not only taken out of service by this act but had also been sending disturbed images prior to its destruction, likely indicating attempts to tamper with it prior to the saw incident. The local Carabinieri were also called to conduct an assessment of the situation, further highlighting the area's concern regarding the safety and reliability of speed enforcement measures.
Fleximan, known for targeting speed cameras, raises questions about the effectiveness of road safety measures and the motivations behind such acts of vandalism. The incident has sparked discussions on public safety, law enforcement response to vandalism, and the need for better protection of traffic monitoring devices, as such actions pose significant risks not only to enforcement efforts but also potentially to road users as well.
