'If the Sangh says so, I am ready to step down...', Mohan Bhagwat's big statement at the RSS program

Mohan Bhagwat, the chief of the RSS, stated he would step down if the organization requested him to do so, while emphasizing the importance of developing values in society over mere publicity.

At the centenary program of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) in Mumbai, Mohan Bhagwat, the organization's chief, expressed his views on several significant issues. Among them, he addressed the question of relinquishing his position, indicating that while the RSS has retained him in his role despite his age, he would comply with any request to resign from the organization. Bhagwat underscored the fundamental mission of the RSS as fostering values within society, arguing that excessive publicity can lead to arrogance and an appearance of self-importance. Therefore, he emphasized that publicity should be akin to rain—timed and limited in measure.

Furthermore, Bhagwat referred to the RSS's cultural heritage of not enforcing retirement based solely on age, which traditionally has been set at 75 years. He reassured that historical precedent within the RSS has never necessitated forced retirement. This practice aligns with the organization's philosophy of utilizing its volunteers to their fullest potential until the very end. Bhagwat also highlighted that leadership positions within the RSS are reserved for Hindu individuals, regardless of their caste, stating that qualifications for leadership within the organization do not discriminate against varying social strata. Instead, any individual serving the Hindu cause can aspire to lead, thereby promoting inclusivity within the RSS framework.
