[Editorial] 'Special Counsel Recommendation' Discord in the Democratic Party, No More Turmoil Should Occur
Democratic Party leader Jeong Cheong-rae apologized for the party's failed personnel verification, which reportedly displeased President Lee Jae-myung after the suggestion of a controversial attorney for a special counsel investigation.
On December 8, Jeong Cheong-rae, the leader of South Korea's Democratic Party, publicly apologized, acknowledging that the party's failure in personnel verification had caused distress to President Lee Jae-myung. This apology comes after the Democratic Party recommended Jeon Jun-cheol, an attorney who previously represented the North Korean fund remittance incident involving the company Ssangyong, as a candidate for a second comprehensive special investigation. President Lee reportedly expressed strong dissatisfaction with this move, which sparked internal criticism within the party. Jeong's apology aims to quell growing tensions and avoid further internal conflicts within the party as they start to engage in power struggles only eight months after the new government was initiated.
