Russia Blocked from Starlink: 'If You Can Get Registered Equipment, It Costs 340,000 Won'
After illegally using Starlink communications during the Ukraine war, the Russian military is seeking to rebuild its communication network following a recent blockage by Starlink.
In the ongoing war in Ukraine, the Russian military has been utilizing Starlink satellite communications illegally. However, recent actions taken by Ukraine's government, in collaboration with SpaceX, have resulted in the blocking of these unauthorized communications. This followed allegations that Russian forces were using drones equipped with Starlink devices to carry out strikes deep within Ukrainian territory. SpaceX responded by implementing a 'whitelist' system that permits only registered devices to connect, additionally blocking internet access to any device moving faster than 75 km/h, due to concerns over their use in drone and missile operations. This measure comes as a direct response to the Russian military's ability to target civilian infrastructure, such as trains and vehicles on highways, raising public anxiety in Ukraine.
