Carnival: see the streets and neighborhoods with the most robberies and cell phone thefts in SP
Research reveals the most affected areas for cell phone thefts during the 2025 Carnival in São Paulo.
The G1 report highlights that the Ibirapuera circuit reported the highest number of cell phone thefts during the 2025 Carnival in São Paulo, accounting for nearly 20% of the incidents. In total, there were 1,145 cases reported on major routes frequented by carnival-goers, contributing to a broader tally of 6,067 call thefts citywide over the event's eight days. Significant locations of concern included Avenida Pedro Álvares Cabral, Rua da Consolação, and Praça da República, precisely where many vibrant street parties took place.
Despite the usual prominence of Avenida Paulista in previous assessments of theft-related incidents, it surprisingly ranked eighth this year. The report indicates that the concentration of large blocos, or street parties—like the Pipoca da Rainha by Daniela Mercury—drew significant crowds, potentially heightening opportunities for theft. As São Paulo hosted 601 block parties in 2025, the surge in festivities correlates with the increased number of incidents, thus posing alarming concerns for public safety and law enforcement strategies during mass events.
To address these thefts, authorities may need to consider enhanced security measures and increased police presence in these hotspots during future carnivals to protect revelers and ensure a safe environment amid the festivities. The reported numbers emphasize the ongoing issue of street crime during large public gatherings, which can deter local participation and affect the overall joyous nature of such cultural events.
