FIR Filed in Surajkund Mela Incident, Operator Accused of Negligence

An FIR has been registered against the operator of a carousel at the Surajkund Mela following the fatal accident that resulted in the death of an inspector.

An investigation into the recent fatal accident at the Surajkund Mela has led the Faridabad police to form a Special Investigation Team (SIT). The SIT comprises ACP Crime Varun Dahiya, one inspector, and one sub-inspector who will probe the incident. The case has also resulted in an FIR being registered against the operator and staff of the rides under Section 105 of the Indian Penal Code, covering culpable homicide not amounting to murder, due to grave negligence in ensuring safety standards.

The tragic incident involved the death of Inspector Jagdish Prasad, who was on duty at the fair when the carousel collapsed. Following the severe implications of this accident, a member of the Crime Branch filed the FIR, pointing to gross negligence on the part of the ride's operators. The report detailed that the proprietor of Himachal Fun Fair Company, Mohammad Shakeel, and his team failed to adhere to safety protocols, ultimately endangering lives, which led to the untimely demise of Inspector Jagdish Prasad.

In response to the incident, the concerned authorities have also promised financial assistance of 1 crore INR to the family of the deceased inspector as a measure of support in the wake of this tragedy. The operator of the ride, Sarabjit Singh, has been named in the complaint as being directly responsible for the lapse in safety that resulted in the accident, raising serious questions about the enforcement of safety regulations at public events like the Surajkund Mela.
