Niilo, 15, did what many only dream of: 'Can decide what to do'

15-year-old Niilo Penninkangas successfully established his own business to earn money during the summer, showcasing entrepreneurial spirit amid challenges in finding summer employment.

Niilo Penninkangas, a 15-year-old from Alajärvi, Finland, faced difficulties last year in finding summer work, a common challenge for many teenagers. In search of a solution to earn money for a moped, he discovered an advertisement online about starting a business with 4H. Motivated by the idea of entrepreneurship, he realized it would be straightforward to start his own business as long as he completed the necessary training and business plan.

As a result, he founded 'NiiloAvux,' offering a variety of services including yard work, house cleaning, snow removal, firewood chopping, and babysitting—activities he feels confident in due to his background as one of five children in his family. Besides enjoying snow removal as a relaxing activity, he is open to expanding into babysitting, even though he hasn't had that experience yet. Niilo's entrepreneurial venture is not just about financial gain, as he derives satisfaction from helping elderly clients who may struggle with everyday tasks like grocery shopping.

Niilo's story exemplifies the proactive mindset of today's youth who are willing to tackle challenges through creative solutions. It highlights the importance of entrepreneurship in providing young people with opportunities to learn skills, gain independence, and contribute to their communities. His initiative may inspire other teens in similar situations to consider starting their own ventures as a means of self-sufficiency and personal growth.
