Large wildfire in Norway - 40 people evacuated

A wildfire in Norway has prompted the evacuation of 40 individuals as the fire continues to spread due to strong winds and dry conditions.

A significant wildfire broke out in Norway on Saturday afternoon, reportedly triggered by someone playing with a lighter. The fire has worsened through the night, fueled by strong winds measuring around 12 m/s and extremely dry conditions in the area. Emergency services have indicated that the blaze is spreading uncontrollably in multiple locations, threatening both mountainous terrain and residential areas.

Operations leader Trond Hangรฅs informed NRK early Sunday morning that the fire intensified overnight in a direction that, while anticipated, was not desired. This has raised alarms among emergency response teams and necessitated a large-scale mobilization of firefighting resources, including both professionals and volunteers coming together to manage the crisis.

To safeguard public health, the authorities have issued advisories urging residents to steer clear of the affected area and to close their windows to prevent inhalation of smoke. Helicopters will be deployed for firefighting efforts as the situation progresses and efforts continue to contain the rapidly spreading flames.
