‘Cabbage Boy’ Lee Sang-ho aims for 400th Olympic medal
South Korea’s Lee Sang-ho, known as ‘Cabbage Boy’, is set to compete in the parallel giant slalom at the upcoming 2026 Winter Olympics, targeting the country's 400th Olympic medal.
Lee Sang-ho, a South Korean snowboarder nicknamed 'Cabbage Boy', is poised to compete in the parallel giant slalom during the 2026 Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics, aiming for the historic milestone of South Korea's 400th Olympic medal. The event will take place at Livigno Snow Park in Italy, and the competition structure involves qualifying runs followed by a knockout tournament, making each run critically important for advancing in the competition.
Lee achieved notable success at the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics, where he won a silver medal, marking a significant achievement for South Korean skiing and snowboarding. However, his performance at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics did not meet expectations as he was eliminated in the quarterfinals. This season has been a rollercoaster for Lee, but he regained his momentum by winning a tournament just before the Olympics, demonstrating his readiness to contend for the gold medal and potentially securing a landmark win for South Korea.
If Lee earns a podium finish, he will be celebrated as the athlete who secures the 400th medal in South Korean Olympic history, which includes a total of 320 medals from the Summer Olympics and 79 medals from the Winter Olympics. Alongside Lee, fellow snowboarders Kim Sang-gyeom and Jo Wan-hee will also compete in the men's parallel giant slalom, with Jeong Hae-rim participating in the women's event, indicating a robust representation of South Korean talent in snowboarding at the upcoming Games.
