Civic-Military Schools: Units Expect Improvement in Discipline and Learning in Interior SP
Three state schools in the interior of São Paulo have implemented a civic-military education model in hopes of improving classroom discipline and learning outcomes.
In the cities of Araras, São Carlos, and Pirassununga, three state schools have initiated the 2026 academic year by adopting a civic-military education model. This decision aims to enhance classroom discipline and create a learning environment more conducive to student success. The civic-military program is expected to integrate military-style discipline into the educational framework, fostering a structured learning environment.
The change at the Yolanda Salles Cabianca State School in Araras was prompted by community requests. Students had expressed concerns over a lack of discipline in classrooms, which they felt negatively affected their studies. In response to these complaints, school stakeholders, including students and staff, voted in favor of adopting the civic-military education model, and the transition began on the first Monday of the month.
One student, Jhully Gama, who participated in the vote, noted that the previous environment involved excessive discussions and disruptions, which hindered learning. The civic-military model is anticipated to address these issues by instilling a sense of discipline and order within the classroom. As this new educational approach unfolds its initial phase, local communities are hopeful for a positive shift in both student behavior and academic performance.
