Jump Mistake in Figure Skating Team Event: Cha Jun-hwan Says He Wants to Think of It as a 'Preventive Injection' and Aims to Make Up in the Individual Event

Korean figure skater Cha Jun-hwan expressed disappointment over a jump mistake during the team event at the Olympics but is determined to recover for the upcoming individual competition.

Korean figure skater Cha Jun-hwan, competing in his third Olympics, experienced a significant jump mistake during the men's single short program in the figure skating team event held in Milan. Despite successfully executing the first two jump elements, including a quadruple Salchow and a triple Lutz-triple loop combination, Cha faltered on his final jump, a triple Axel, leading to a disappointing score of 83.53, which fell short of both his personal and season bests.

Cha's performance contributed to South Korea's overall score of 14 points, ranking them seventh and ultimately failing to qualify for the final round where the top five nations compete. His performance in the team event, however, is seen as a critical opportunity for him to rebound, particularly with the individual event approaching soon. In the preceding ice dance event, South Korea secured points through other skaters, but their overall standing was not strong enough to earn a free skate appearance.

Looking ahead to the individual competition, Cha remains optimistic, referring to his jump mistake as a 'preventive injection' that he hopes will prepare him for future performances. As he and his teammates seek to improve in their respective events, the focus lies strongly on recovering from setbacks and aiming for personal bests in the individual rounds of the Winter Olympics.
