Wildfire in Ørland is growing – it may take time to extinguish, says the mayor
A growing wildfire in Ørland, Trøndelag, poses challenges for local authorities as they mobilize resources to contain the situation.
A wildfire in Ørland, Trøndelag, is expanding, creating significant concerns for local officials and residents. Mayor Hallgeir Grøntvedt noted that dry weather in the area has contributed to the fire's rapid progression, compounded by strong southeast winds that shift due to mountainous terrain. Emergency services are actively working to secure the safety of people, buildings, and livestock as the fire continues to spread north of Bjugnfjorden.
To combat the wildfire effectively, the municipality is coordinating with local farmers who have large tank trucks to assist in firefighting efforts. Additionally, the Norwegian Armed Forces have deployed a fire truck from Ørland Air Base to aid the local firefighters. The crisis management team of the municipality has been mobilized, and so far, one family and several animals have been evacuated from a nearby farm, highlighting the urgency of the situation.
Despite these efforts, Mayor Grøntvedt cautioned that the extinguishing of the fire could take a substantial amount of time, underlining the complexities involved in firefighting under such conditions. With scattered residential developments in the affected area, there is an ongoing concern for the safety of local residents and property as the firefighters continue to battle the flames.
