In 2025, Paraíba state in Brazil has experienced a concerning trend with an average of three violent deaths each day, totaling 1,026 crimes classified as Violent Intentional Lethal Crimes (CVLI) reported by the Ministry of Justice and Public Security. Among these, the statistics indicate that there were 36 femicides, 900 intentional homicides, and various other categories including robberies leading to death and police interventions that resulted in fatalities. This data reflects the broader issues of violence in the region and highlights the ongoing challenges faced by law enforcement.
The month of February marked the peak of violence with 99 reported incidents, followed by March and December, each witnessing 91 deadly events. The cities most affected by these violent crimes included João Pessoa, which had the highest number at 233 incidents, followed by Santa Rita and Bayeux, contributing significantly to the overall crime figures. This distribution of incidents points to specific urban areas in Paraíba that are in need of targeted intervention and support from local authorities to address the high rates of violence.
Despite the alarming statistics, Paraíba has shown a trend of decreasing violence since 2021, indicating some positive developments in the overall safety situation. In comparison, there were 1,166 intentional homicides recorded in 2020. This decline suggests that strategies implemented by law enforcement and local government action may be having a gradual positive effect, although significant challenges remain to ensure public safety and further reduce the rates of violent crime in the future.
