The New South Wales government is set to enforce a crackdown on illegal e-bikes that exceed the legal speed limit of 25 kilometres per hour. As part of the initiative, new speed detection devices will be deployed across the region to assist police in identifying speeding e-bikes. Transport Minister Jenny Aitchison highlighted that key areas such as Sydney, the Illawarra, and the Hunter Valley are problematic, with increasing incidents of illegal and dangerous e-bike use. She emphasized the dire consequences, stating that many individuals face serious injury or even death due to the reckless operation of these vehicles. The legislation to formalize these measures is anticipated to be presented to the state parliament by mid-year, reflecting the government's urgent approach to this growing issue.
