Civil Defense strengthens actions against climate disasters in the interior of SP

The Civil Defense announced R$ 42.8 million in investments for climate disaster prevention and response in the interior of SΓ£o Paulo.

On Saturday morning, municipalities from the administrative regions of Presidente Prudente and MarΓlia participated in a regional meeting of the State Civil Defense in Tupi Paulista, SP. At this meeting, the government announced significant investments totaling R$ 42.8 million aimed at preventing and responding to the impacts of heavy rains and extreme climate events. This funding will help improve infrastructure resilience and operational capabilities of local Civil Defense authorities.

The investment is strategically divided into two main categories: R$ 31.1 million for reconstruction works, which focus on recovering infrastructure damaged by storms. This includes essential projects such as the construction of bridges, drainage systems, and secure crossings, with 11 projects completed so far and 17 others underway. Additionally, R$ 11.7 million will be allocated for developing operational capabilities between 2024 and 2026, including the acquisition of vehicles and equipment necessary for effective disaster response.

The discussions in Tupi Paulista highlighted the critical need for an integrated risk management approach among the state and municipalities to enhance preparedness for future climate-related challenges. This initiative underscores the state's proactive stance in addressing the increasing threats posed by climate change and ensuring that local agencies are equipped to handle emergencies efficiently.
