Suvi Minkkinen was astonished in the Olympic Village: 'Quite far from that'

Finnish biathlete Suvi Minkkinen reflects on her stay in the Olympic village, expressing mixed feelings about the accommodations and the overall atmosphere of the Milano-Cortina Olympics.

Suvi Minkkinen, a prominent Finnish biathlete, recently expressed surprise at the conditions in the Olympic Village situated in Anterselva, Italy. The village features four hotels accommodating around 300 beds, but Minkkinen revealed that the Finnish skiing team is residing outside the Olympic Village in Val di Fiemme due to concerns about the small size of the rooms. However, she noted that their accommodations in Val di Fiemme are quite comfortable, providing spacious rooms and good facilities for the athletes.

In her reflections, Minkkinen highlighted the differences between the festive spirit expected at the Olympics and the current atmosphere surrounding the Milano-Cortina Games. Due to the distribution of events across six different locations, there are concerns that the vibrant Olympic spirit has been diminished. Minkkinen, who is staying in a room with teammates Inka Hämäläinen and Sonja Leinamo, mentioned that even though the situation in Anterselva is decent, she senses a lack of the unique excitement that traditionally accompanies the Olympics.

Anterselva is well-known for hosting the Biathlon World Cup, and Minkkinen's comments suggest a desire for a more unified and energetic Olympic experience. With her remarks, she reflects a broader sentiment among the athletes about the need for an invigorating Olympic atmosphere, which has been somewhat compromised by the Games' current logistical structure and venue arrangements.
