Now speaks Jessie Diggins, who ruined the race for Vilma Nissinen
Jessie Diggins discusses the unfortunate collision that affected her and fellow competitors during the 10+10 kilometer combined race.
In a recent race, Jessie Diggins caused a significant chain reaction after falling down during a downhill section, which impacted several competitors including Vilma Nissinen from Finland. Around the two-kilometer mark of the 10+10 kilometer combined race, Diggins fell, leading to Norwegian skier Karoline Simpson-Larsen also crashing, and subsequently, Vilma Nissinen attempted to dodge them but ended up falling as well. As a result, Nissinen finished in 40th place.
Diggins described her misfortune, stating that her ski got lost in the slush at a critical moment, resulting in a complete loss of speed. Following the fall, she acknowledged that while her performance in the skating segment was encouraging, she encountered unfortunate events in the classical section that were beyond her control. Ultimately, Diggins finished the race in 8th place, with a gap of two minutes and 21 seconds from the winner, Frida Karlsson.
Despite the setback from the crash, Diggins remained focused on maintaining her composure during the race. She emphasized that the collision was not her biggest problem in the competition, although it did impact her time. Diggins feels in the best shape of her life, noting that her body felt good during the race, but acknowledged the need to address multiple factors to improve her performance in future events.
