Carnaval de Vitória 2026: see how the first night of parades of the Special Group schools went
The first night of the 2026 Carnaval de Vitória brought vibrant performances from five top samba schools, celebrating history, ancestry, and fantasy.
The inaugural night of the 2026 Carnaval de Vitória unfolded on February 6, showcasing an array of colorful and emotional performances at the Sambão do Povo. The event featured five elite samba schools, part of the Special Group, each presenting compelling narratives that intertwined elements of history, ancestry, and fantasy. The excitement kicked off around 10 PM with the first samba school, Pega no Samba, followed by Novo Império, Unidos de Jucutuquara, Mocidade Unida da Glória, and Imperatriz do Forte.
This year marked a significant expansion in the number of participating schools in the Special Group, rising from seven to ten, requiring two days of parades to accommodate all performances. In addition, the previously separate Groups A and B in the Access category have now been merged to create the Série Ouro, comprised of nine schools, with their respective parades set for February 13 and 14, coinciding with the official carnival celebrations. This restructuring promises increased competition and entertainment for carnival enthusiasts.
The advancements in performance scale are evident as each year sees more elaborate floats and costumes, indicating a growing investment in the carnival experience. The vivid expressions of culture and artistry during the parades not only contribute to local pride but also attract attention from tourists, turning the Carnaval de Vitória into an essential event in Brazil’s carnival season, enhancing its cultural significance and economic impact on the region.
