Here the skiers get bubbles and chocolates – during the Bubble Race in Umeå

The Bubble Race in Umeå successfully attracted nearly 300 female participants this year, doubling last year's turnout.

The Bubble Race, held on Saturday in Umeå for the second consecutive year, saw a significant increase in participation, with nearly 300 young women competing compared to 200 last year. Christine Johansson, from the event's organizer TTGU, expressed her excitement over the rising numbers and emphasized the event's goal of encouraging more girls to ski and participate in competitions.

Johansson highlighted the unique and celebratory atmosphere of the race, noting the reduced pressure that comes with an all-female event. She pointed out that this race is necessary to help newcomers feel confident in taking part. The event included fun elements such as a 'chocolate curve' where participants received chocolates, and non-alcoholic bubbles were served at the finish line, attracting a festive crowd.

Participants had the option to complete distances of 14, 28, or 42 kilometers, and the winners of each category included Ida Thellenberg, Susanne Pettersson, and Nora Wallenius, with Wallenius marking her first competitive experience. The aims of creating a fun and straightforward atmosphere were met, promoting joy and camaraderie among the skiers, and underscoring the event's commitment to fostering a supportive community for female skiers.
