Greens Against Federal Budget: No Organklage After All
The Greens in Germany's Bundestag will not file a constitutional complaint against the 2025 federal budget, arguing instead for individual constitutional complaints due to a lack of sufficient investments.
The Green Party in Germany has decided not to pursue a constitutional complaint against the federal budget for 2025, despite claiming that the budget is unconstitutional due to inadequate 'additional' investments. Green budget politician Sebastian SchΓ€fer stated that an Organklage is 'not the right instrument' for their concerns, signaling a shift towards exploring individual constitutional complaints as a potential next step, as announced by party vice Andreas Audretsch. This decision comes amidst ongoing criticisms from the Greens regarding the government's allocation of a special fund worth 500 billion Euro, which they argue is being misused, diverting crucial investments from infrastructure and climate protection to more politically advantageous measures such as maternal pensions and reduced VAT in hospitality.
