Palmeiras announces the signing of Colombian Jhon Arias, former Fluminense player
Palmeiras has signed Colombian forward Jhon Arias from Wolverhampton, extending his contract until December 2029.
On Saturday morning, Palmeiras announced the signing of Colombian striker Jhon Arias from Wolverhampton in an agreement that will see him play in Brazil until December 2029. Arias, 28, previously made a name for himself at Fluminense, where he was a key player and helped the team achieve significant successes, including reaching the semifinals of the FIFA Club World Cup in 2025, winning the Copa Libertadores in 2023, and the Recopa Sudamericana in 2024.
While at Fluminense, Arias proved to be a prolific contributor, scoring 47 goals and providing 55 assists over 230 matches since joining in 2021 from Independiente Santa Fé. His impressive performance earned him a spot in the hearts of fans, making his transfer to Palmeiras a highly anticipated move. Before this transfer, he had a brief spell at Wolverhampton, where he struggled to make an impact in the Premier League, scoring just one goal in 23 games, contributing to the team's dismal position as they face relegation.
Palmeiras coach Abel Ferreira has expressed the need for reinforcements following the departure of experienced goalkeeper Weverton to Grêmio. The addition of Arias is expected to bolster the squad's attacking options and relieve the team as they compete in various competitions in the upcoming season, highlighting the club's ambitions to reclaim dominance in Brazilian football.
