On Saturday, the Kano State Government initiated a Smart Transport Solution in a move to enhance road safety and bolster security across the state. The program, which is a collaboration between the Ministry of Transport and AS&J Company, was launched by the Commissioner for Transport, Haruna Dederi. According to Dederi, this system represents a significant technological advancement for Kano, designed to manage and monitor public transportation effectively.

Dederi highlighted the modernity of the system, noting that while it is new to Kano, similar technologies are already in use in major cities globally. The smart transport setup incorporates tracking capabilities for various commercial vehicles such as taxis, buses, tricycles, trailers, and tankers. The Commissioner emphasized that the tracking would help to monitor movements intelligently, akin to satellite imagery, sending data directly to authorities to facilitate immediate responses to any incidents.

Importantly, Dederi mentioned that this system will establish dashboards accessible to key local authorities including the police and the Ministry of Transport, providing a collaborative platform for better security oversight. The goal of this initiative is to extend its scope eventually to encompass all vehicles, marking a progressive step forward in the state's transport management. This innovation not only aims to improve the security of public transportation but also to instill greater confidence among residents about safety measures in their daily commutes.
