Priyanka Chopra was supposed to be the 'Naagin' of Bollywood, reveals Ekta Kapoor
Ekta Kapoor revealed that Priyanka Chopra was initially set to star in a film about Indian folklore titled 'Naagin', which later transformed into a popular TV series.
Recently, the popularity of films based on mythology and folklore has surged at the Indian box office, originating from the South, with hits like 'Kartikeya', 'Kalki', and 'Kantara'. This trend has now reached Bollywood, producing films such as 'Adipurush', 'Brahmastra', and the upcoming 'Varanasi' by director S. S. Rajamouli, along with the film 'Ramayanam' starring Ranbir Kapoor and Yash. Before this genre became mainstream, producer Ekta Kapoor had envisioned a film inspired by Indian folklore called 'Naagin', although it never made it to the big screen.
Instead, Ekta successfully adapted this concept into a television series that became one of the most popular shows on Indian television. The current season of 'Naagin' is Season 7, and there is a consistent demand for new seasons. In a recent interview, Kapoor commented on the enthusiasm of Indian audiences for Western superhero movies, while expressing the importance of domestic folklore and its potential to resonate with viewers. The notion that Priyanka Chopra could have been the face of 'Naagin' adds an intriguing layer to the narrative surrounding this iconic series.
